Kware Murder Case Takes Turn as Suspect Alleges Torture by Police
The prime suspect in the Kware killings has made a sensational claim during a hearing at the Makadara Law Courts on Tuesday, stating that he was tortured into confessing to the alleged murders.
Collins Jumaisi, represented by his advocate John Ndegwa, maintained his innocence, asserting that he endured inhumane treatment at the time of his arrest and now requires urgent medical care.
These allegations were brought forward as police sought a court order to detain him for 30 days pending further investigation into the gruesome killings. “Nothing concrete has been produced before this court in respect to the accusations leveled against my client. Much of what has been adduced is mere speculation,” Ndegwa argued.
Despite these claims, Makadara magistrate Irene Gicobi granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) permission to detain Jumaisi for 30 days. The police allege that Jumaisi had confessed to the serial killings and was apprehended in a house in Kayole, where he was reportedly attempting to lure another victim.
During a raid on the suspect’s residence, authorities recovered ten mobile phones, seven identity cards, ten SIM cards, a panga, gloves, several sacks similar to those found with bodies at the dump site, and ropes. “We believe we have a key and prime suspect in the murder of people whose bodies have been found dumped in the Kware area,” said an officer familiar with the case.
Detectives have also linked money withdrawn from the latest victims to the suspect, marking what they call a significant breakthrough in an investigation that has raised concerns about potential extrajudicial killings.
