Ksh 14 Million Worth of Heroin Seized As Trafficker Arrested in Malindi
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday seized heroin worth Ksh 14.5 million in Malindi, Kilifi County.
The suspect was apprehended in Ngerenya following an intelligence-led operation.
The heroin, weighing approximately 3.6 kilograms, was hidden in 38 packages and buried in an attempt to evade detection.
Alongside the drugs, officers recovered Ksh 13,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the illegal trade.
According to a police statement, the anti-narcotics team from Malindi, alongside officers from Sabaki Bridge, executed the raid after receiving a tip-off about the suspect’s involvement in narcotics trafficking.
“The trafficker was caught red-handed in his hideout in Ngerenya,” the police said, highlighting the success of their intelligence-based operation.
Authorities have noted a rise in drug-related activities in Kenya’s coastal region, with efforts to combat the menace yet to fully bear fruit.
The arrested suspect is currently in custody at Malindi Police Station and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
