Ksh.1 Trillion To Be Used To Boost Diaspora Homecoming Convention
Kenya is set to host the 11th annual Kenya Diaspora Homecoming Convention from December 9 to December 11, drawing Kenyans from all corners of the world to participate in one of the nation’s largest gatherings of expatriates. This year’s theme, “Knowledge & Skills for Resilience and Growth,” underscores the vital role of technology and resilience in Kenya’s economic development amid the shift toward the 5th Industrial Era.
The event, held in Nairobi, will bring together government leaders, private sector innovators, civil society representatives, and members of academia, all focused on mobilizing Kenya’s vast diaspora to support national goals.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi highlighted the government’s goal of securing Ksh.1 trillion in remittances by 2027. The Central Bank of Kenya has already recorded a substantial Ksh. 156 billion in remittances in the first quarter of 2024, which continues to provide significant economic support to local households and the broader economy.
With rapid advancements defining the new industrial era, Kenya seeks to leverage the skills and networks of its diaspora to foster resilience and technological adaptation. Through initiatives like the “National Strategy for Skills Development for Labour Migration” by the Ministry of Labour, the country is laying the groundwork for a sustainable and resilient economy.
Dr. Shem Ochuodho, Kenya Diaspora Alliance’s Global Chairman, emphasized that the convention will focus on creating a collaborative action plan to harness the expertise of the Kenyan diaspora, with the aim of strengthening economic resilience and promoting sustainable growth in Kenya.
