KPSEA is a critical evaluation for Grade 6 learners under the competency-based curriculum (CBC), serving as a transitional assessment. The pioneer CBC cohort will proceed to Grade 9 this term as scheduled. The Ministry further assured that Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results will be released within the first two weeks of January.
Academic Calendar and Transition Updates
Term one of the 2025 academic year will last 13 weeks, with a five-day midterm break. Schools are slated to reopen for the new term on Monday, January 6.
In 2024, a total of 1,313,913 KPSEA candidates from 35,573 examination centres participated in the assessment. The Ministry emphasized its commitment to a seamless transition for learners, revealing that 93% of the 16,000 classrooms planned for construction under the CBC initiative have been completed. For unfinished projects, temporary measures will ensure student safety.
Resource Distribution and Funding
The Ministry confirmed the dispatch of 9,926,618 textbooks to schools nationwide, with completion expected by January 6, 2025, to support smooth learning. Additionally, Ksh48.3 billion in capitation funds will be disbursed in phases: 50% in term one, 30% in term two, and 20% in term three.
This comprehensive approach underscores the government’s dedication to providing quality education and ensuring an effective transition under the CBC framework.
