Kitale Police in Hot Pursuit of Woman Linked to KMTC Student’s Tragic Death
Police in Kitale are intensifying their search for a female suspect accused of fatally stabbing a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student during a heated altercation in Kibomet, a Kitale suburb. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The victim, 25-year-old Benedict Kiptoo, was a final-year KMTC student eagerly awaiting his graduation. Reports indicate that he was stabbed in the left side of his neck, a wound that proved fatal. The suspect, identified as Mercy Masika, also known by her alias Nancy Faiza, fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Efforts to save Benedict’s life were unsuccessful. Dr. Evans Letting, who attended to the injured student, recounted the grim ordeal: “We tried all we could to stabilize him, but his condition deteriorated rapidly due to excessive blood loss.”
Benedict’s family is heartbroken and is now calling for justice. His mother, Gladys Kipkorir, implored authorities to expedite the search for the suspect. “We need justice for my son. The authorities must act swiftly,” she said, her voice heavy with grief. His uncle, Japheth Kipkorir, supported her appeal, emphasizing the necessity of holding the suspect accountable.
Trans Nzoia Deputy Police Commander Selasio Murethi confirmed the incident and reassured the public of ongoing investigations. “We are actively searching for the suspect, and we are confident of bringing her to justice,” Murethi stated.
The tragic event has also prompted broader conversations about the prevalence of gender-based violence. County Health Executive Sam Ojwang condemned the incident, calling on society to take a firm stand against such acts. Similarly, psychologist Vincent Agolla urged couples to adopt effective conflict-resolution strategies to prevent such fatal outcomes.
This incident unfolds as global campaigns against gender-based violence gain momentum, underscoring the urgent need for collective action to address this pervasive issue.
