Kioni Hits Back at Odinga, Dismisses Kenyatta’s Alleged Role in Ruto’s Govt
Uhuru Ally Kioni Rebukes Odinga’s Allegations on Kenyatta’s Role in Broad-Based Government
Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has firmly rejected opposition leader Raila Odinga’s allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta played a role in shaping President William Ruto’s broad-based government. In a fiery press conference on Wednesday, Kioni accused Odinga of attempting to smear Kenyatta’s name after making what he called a “misguided” decision to collaborate with Ruto.
Odinga had claimed that Kenyatta urged him to engage with Ruto to address the national crisis sparked by widespread Gen Z protests, suggesting that the former president was concerned about the country’s stability. However, Kioni dismissed these assertions as both “misleading and inaccurate.”
Referencing a letter from Kenyatta dated July 25, Kioni highlighted the former president’s grief over the loss of lives during the protests and his call for elected officials to listen to the public. Kioni emphasized that Kenyatta has consistently criticized Ruto’s administration, which he blames for widespread hardship and corruption.
“The idea that Kenyatta would endorse a partnership with Ruto’s administration is absurd,” Kioni declared, refuting Odinga’s claims. He further criticized Odinga for allegedly involving Kenyatta in the controversy to deflect attention from his own controversial decision to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza regime.
Kioni suggested that Odinga’s decision to form a broad-based government was a desperate move driven by his waning popularity among Kenyans. “Dragging others into your mess does not absolve you of your poor choices,” Kioni remarked. He also accused Odinga of misleading the public for personal gain, citing the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report as evidence of his lack of transparency with the Azimio team.
The Jubilee Secretary General concluded by reaffirming that Kenyatta’s recent actions and statements clearly show his opposition to Ruto’s government. “Odinga’s claims about Kenyatta encouraging engagement with Ruto are simply untrue,” Kioni insisted
