Kilimani Police Under Investigation Over Delayed Action in Sexual Assault Case
Kilimani Police are facing mounting scrutiny after allegations of inaction in a disturbing assault case surfaced. The case involves a gang of five operating in the Kilimani area, Nairobi County, accused of luring and assaulting victims, particularly women, and engaging in body shaming and extortion through secret photographs.
One of the victims, a Norwegian national, has written directly to the Inspector General of Police, accusing the Kilimani Police of dragging their feet despite filing a complaint on July 26. She reported being assaulted, robbed, and subjected to attempted gang rape by the group, which includes two men armed with pistols. The gang allegedly took explicit videos and photos, which they have been using to blackmail her.
The victim, Maria Abdisalam, also mentioned that some of the suspects are known to her, and they have been threatening her to withdraw the complaint. Despite following all necessary procedures, including obtaining a Police Medical Examination report, no substantial action has been taken. Her lawyer, Albert Kuloba, has demanded an update from the police, accusing them of bias and neglect.
The Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander, Ben Kobia, confirmed that the case is under investigation and that the suspects would be summoned. However, the victim claims the police have been evasive, while the suspects continue to threaten her. The incident has raised serious concerns about the police’s commitment to handling cases involving sexual assault and extortion, especially when powerful figures are allegedly involved.
This case echoes a previous incident in May, where another victim accused the Kilimani Police of failing to act against influential suspects, sparking public outcry and calls for accountability.
