Kenya’s Ruto Joins African Leaders in Uganda to Combat Hunger and Poverty
President William Ruto traveled to Uganda on Saturday, January 11, to attend the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed emphasized the summit’s goal to combat hunger and poverty by adopting agriculture-driven policies.
During his one-day official visit, Ruto will highlight Kenya’s strides in improving food security and reducing poverty through sustainable job creation and growth. He will also underscore the alignment of the summit’s agenda with his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and Vision 2030, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to agricultural transformation.
“The summit will assess progress towards the targets set and seek to adopt the Kampala Declaration, outlining a shared vision for transforming agri-food systems from 2026 to 2035,” read part of the statement. “The outcomes are expected to shape agricultural policies that drive economic growth and achieve food security across the continent.”
President Ruto is also scheduled to meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and other regional leaders to strengthen bilateral ties and rally support for his role as the African Union’s Institutional Reforms champion.
