Kenyan Family Appeals for Funds After Loved One Fatally Shot in Colorado
The family of Nelson Munene Kimathi, a Kenyan man who was tragically killed in Denver, Colorado, is reaching out for financial support to cover funeral costs.
Kimathi, 27, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after a startled resident shot him during an alleged intrusion at an apartment complex near the University of Denver,
according to the Denver Police Department. The incident occurred on July 21.
In a heartfelt plea, Kimathi’s relative, Paul Arithi, launched a GoFundMe campaign last Friday, aiming to raise $30,000 for the funeral. By Saturday, $4,195 had been collected.
Kimathi’s family, in a touching eulogy, described him as an “obedient, fun-loving, adventurous, jovial, kind, and sensitive soul” who cherished the outdoors, travel, and spending time with loved ones.
As they grapple with the shock and grief of his untimely death, the family is working closely with local leaders and legal experts to seek justice and navigate the path forward.
The Denver Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
