KDF Officer Killed Over Boda Boda Fare Dispute
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was stoned to death by a mob in Mombasa after a heated confrontation with a boda boda rider over an unpaid fare escalated into gunfire.
According to a police report, the drama unfolded on Friday when the officer, who had been ferried from Likoni Primary Vyemani Grounds, declined to pay rider Antony Otieno. After a heated exchange, the officer allegedly retrieved an AK-47 rifle from a bag and fired several shots into the air in an attempt to intimidate Otieno.
The confrontation escalated as Otieno, attempting to disarm the officer, pulled him off the motorcycle. During the struggle, the officer reportedly bit Otieno’s nose and fired additional shots, accidentally injuring two bystanders, Claudia Mwashikaji and Mary Trizer, with stray bullets.
Residents who witnessed the altercation intervened, overpowering and stoning the officer to death.
Police officers from Inuka Police Station later arrived at the scene, recovering the firearm, 12 rounds of ammunition, four spent cartridges, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone as evidence.
The injured individuals were rushed to Likoni Sub-County Hospital for treatment and are currently recuperating.
The officer’s body has been moved to the Coast General Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
