Indian Citizen Not Wanted by DCI, Viral Social Media Post Fake
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed as false claims circulating on social media that it has launched a manhunt for Bellamkonda Ram Prasad, an Indian national accused of heading an organ harvesting syndicate in Kenya.
In a statement issued Tuesday morning, the DCI discredited a viral post that alleged they were seeking Ram Prasad, also known as “Pratapan,” for orchestrating the deaths of young Kenyans.
The fake post further alleged that the suspect was behind an international human trafficking and organ harvesting network, luring victims under the age of 30. It claimed that Prasad had escaped custody in India, where he was held for similar crimes, and had entered Kenya on December 19, 2024.
“Prasad escaped police custody in India, where he had been detained for organ harvesting crimes. He is believed to have sneaked into Kenya and is running a kidney harvesting syndicate,” read the false social media post.
Additionally, the post claimed that the DCI was offering a cash reward to anyone with information leading to Prasad’s arrest, further stoking fear among the public.
Public Alarm Over Fake Claims
The viral post sparked widespread concern, with some Kenyans questioning why authorities had not acted if such a threat existed. One social media user on X (formerly Twitter) claimed, “Kenya faces a crisis as an Indian Mafia, led by Bellamkonda Ram Prasad, preys on young victims. Autopsies reveal kidneys missing, sold for $2,000. Interpol is on high alert.”
The DCI clarified that these claims were baseless and urged the public to disregard the misinformation, which had caused unnecessary panic.
Arrest of Former MCA Linked to Organ Harvesting
The clarification came a day after police in Kapsabet arrested a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) over allegations linking her to an organ harvesting syndicate. The politician was apprehended along the Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu road while attempting to flee.
Police said the arrest followed investigations into her child’s involvement in the gruesome murder of a detainee at Chemase Police Station. According to authorities, the MCA was evading an irate mob threatening to lynch her before being intercepted. Her vehicle was later towed to the police station.
