IEBC Official Killed, Son Wounded in Leaves Son Injured
A senior official of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, has been tragically killed in a robbery at her home in Mombasa. Her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan, sustained severe injuries during the attack.
The harrowing incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when two suspected robbers broke into the residence. According to a police report, the intruders gained entry by cutting the kitchen window grills while armed with a crowbar and knife.
“They gained access to the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window while armed with a crowbar and knife,” the report noted.
The suspects attacked Akinyi, inflicting a deep cut on her head above the right eye. Khasim was also wounded, suffering head injuries from the knife attack. The assailants made off with several valuables, including a Samsung A15 mobile phone, a 65-inch Samsung TV, a sound system, an iPad, and a Samsung A21 phone.
Despite his injuries, Khasim managed to drive his mother to Premier Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. He is currently in stable condition and remains hospitalized.
Police have launched investigations into the incident and are actively pursuing the suspects.
