Ichung’wah Strikes Back at Critics Over Political Nicknames

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has hit out at his critics who have been branding him and other leaders with various nicknames.

The Kikuyu MP argued that such labels are designed to diminish their leadership roles and divert attention from the real issues affecting Kenyans.

Speaking on Saturday in Igembe North, Meru County, Ichung’wah called on his detractors to engage in meaningful discussions rather than resorting to name-calling. He maintained that his focus remains on service delivery, not empty criticism.

Development Over Insults

Ichung’wah dismissed the name-tagging as inconsequential, emphasizing that his priority is fulfilling promises made to the people.

“Have you heard how they call me names? But even if they do, I will still respond as long as the Kahero road gets tarmacked,” he said.

He underscored the importance of tangible progress, stating, “What matters is that roads are paved, and markets are built. Development is the priority!”

The MP criticized those who seek to demean government officials through negative labels, insisting that such attempts would not derail their mission of delivering progress to the people.

Focus on Service Delivery

Ichung’wah made it clear that if achieving development means being given nicknames, he and his colleagues have no issue with it. Their commitment, he stressed, is to honor their pledges and bring positive change to their communities.

“There is no name that does not suit a child. If they insist on calling us names, so be it—as long as we focus on development,” he said in his Kikuyu dialect.

Ichung’wah is among the key political figures supporting President William Ruto and has been actively engaging Mt. Kenya residents ahead of the president’s scheduled visit.

Ruto is set to embark on a week-long tour of the region starting April 1, in a bid to strengthen his support base amid growing concerns over the removal of his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
