Ichung’wah Clears the Air on Alleged Plans to Replace Kindiki as Interior CS
Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has firmly dismissed speculations that he is poised to replace Kithure Kindiki as the Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary.
Addressing the public in Rabai, Kilifi County, on Monday, October 21, Ichung’wah expressed satisfaction with his current role as Kikuyu MP and Majority Leader in the National Assembly.
Ichung’wah stressed that his focus remains on fulfilling the mandate for which he was elected, rubbishing the claims as distractions meant to confuse the public. “I have heard many things said, including that I should become the Interior CS. But I want to be clear; I have a job, and I don’t want to confuse people,” he stated.
The Kikuyu MP also made it clear that he had no desire to join President William Ruto’s cabinet, affirming that his mission as Majority Leader is far from complete. “I do not need the job of a minister. My work is to serve my Kikuyu constituents and help in the National Assembly, where I was entrusted with a great responsibility,” Ichung’wah remarked, underscoring his commitment to bringing development to Rabai and other regions.
In his speech, Ichung’wah also took the opportunity to commend MPs for impeaching former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, clarifying that the move was not rooted in personal vendetta but in a collective decision made for the good of the country. “You saw I led the impeachment motion. It wasn’t out of hatred for an individual but out of love for the people of Kenya,” he affirmed.
The statement came after a politician had suggested that Ichung’wah should take over the Interior CS role following Kithure Kindiki’s nomination as Deputy President on October 18. This nomination came just days after Gachagua’s impeachment, which was swiftly followed by Kindiki’s approval by the National Assembly.
However, Gachagua’s legal team has moved to court, securing orders that temporarily block Kindiki’s swearing-in until the case is resolved.
