“I Won’t Refund the Ksh. 19M”:the artist firmly stated he would not be refunding the payment
Tanzanian music sensation Diamond Platnumz has broken his silence following the controversy surrounding his absence at the Furaha Fest, where he was paid $150,000 (approximately Ksh. 19 million) but failed to perform. Addressing his fans via social media, the artist firmly stated he would not be refunding the payment, citing security concerns at the venue as the reason for his no-show.
Diamond emphasized that he dislikes engaging in “foolish social media rumors” but felt compelled to share his side of the story to set the record straight. He revealed that upon arriving at the venue, he noticed significant chaos and opted to remain in his car while waiting for a signal from the organizers.
“The security state of the venue was very questionable,” he explained. “I sat in my car waiting to be called to the stage for my performance. If my time for performing is up, I will leave the venue and I will not refund any money.”
The artist also dismissed claims made by Kenyan singer Willy Paul, who alleged he was blocked from performing ahead of Diamond. Willy Paul had tearfully accused the event’s organizers of favoritism.
“Willy Paul has been looking to provoke me on social media, and I’ve been ignoring him,” Diamond said. “It would be foolish of me to engage in such antics. Does that even make sense?”
He further accused Willy Paul of trying to force his way into shows where he wasn’t scheduled to perform.
Diamond’s manager eventually escorted him back to his hotel, deeming it too late for him to perform. “It was early morning and too late to perform. The fans wouldn’t even be thrilled. My manager just took me back to the hotel.”
The singer also addressed the larger issue of Kenyan sentiments against Tanzanian artists, citing the country’s 75% local music policy as a barrier to regional collaboration.
“Kenyans love Tanzanian music, but it is being killed on the airwaves,” he lamented.
