I Love You, Dad”: Final Words of Form One Girl Who Died Mysteriously in School
In a heartrending turn of events, the father of Angeline Kirigo Kinyua, a Form One student who passed away at Mahiga Girls Secondary School, recalls her final words with him.
Just hours before her untimely death, the 13-year-old had spoken joyfully with her father, full of life and laughter, expressing her love and anticipation to see him soon. “I still hear her saying, ‘I love you, and I look forward to seeing you,’” he shared, overwhelmed with grief.
The tragedy unfolded unexpectedly. On the evening of Friday, October 26, Kirigo had used her teacher’s phone to call her father, sharing a happy conversation without a hint of trouble. However, just a few hours later, her mother, Gladys Moshire, was awoken at 2:30 a.m. by a distressing call from the school, alerting her to her daughter’s sudden illness and urgent need for medical attention.
In a state of shock, she rushed to a hospital in Othaya only to be met with the devastating news that Kirigo had already passed away.
Confusion and grief now weigh on the family as they seek clarity and justice, citing conflicting reports about Kirigo’s cause of death. Social media has since erupted with messages of solidarity and condolences, with many Kenyans voicing their heartbreak and questioning the safety of students in schools.
