“I Helped Him Get the Job”: Gachagua Hits Out at Police IG Kanja
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reignited his criticism of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, accusing him of failing to reciprocate support and betraying their ties
Speaking on Inooro TV and at Kanunga Baptist Church in Nyeri County on Sunday, Gachagua claimed he played a key role in Kanja’s appointment as IG, only to have his security detail withdrawn under Kanja’s leadership.
The former DP further alleged that Kanja, despite being his neighbour from Nyeri County, had neglected his duty by failing to arrest individuals who allegedly attacked him during a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County.
“You know the people who attacked us. Their pictures are public, and most of them have criminal records. Why are they not arrested and charged?” Gachagua asked.
He accused Kanja of being part of a government-orchestrated plot against him and his allies. “We know the goons were organized by the government. Kanja will one day have to answer for this betrayal,” he said.
This latest tirade follows Gachagua’s impeachment over allegations of gross constitutional violations. During a television interview on December 2, he disclosed frustrations he faced while in office, including unpopularity surrounding government projects launched with President William Ruto.
