I escaped two poisoning attempts
In a dramatic turn of events, impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of betrayal and oppression, claiming that there were two assassination attempts on his life through poisoning before his impeachment was tabled in Parliament.
Speaking at a press conference following his discharge from Karen Hospital, where he was treated after a mysterious illness, Gachagua detailed the harrowing attempts on his life.
“On August 30th, undercover police agents in Kisumu entered my room and tried to poison my food. Thankfully, we detected the plot and escaped. The second attempt was on September 3rd in Nyeri, where NIS officers allegedly tried to poison food meant for me and Kikuyu elders,” he claimed.
Gachagua further lamented that his unwavering trust in President Ruto has been shattered. “I didn’t ask for a pre-election agreement like Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula, and others. I trusted Ruto verbally because we are Christians.
I believed he would never betray me or my people, but he has taken me through a storm for the past year,” the embattled deputy president said.
He likened his alleged persecution to the treatment of Kenneth Matiba under President Moi’s regime. “When I look at what the president is doing to me, especially now while I am in hospital, crippling me like an animal,
it seems he wants to take me down the same route as Matiba,” Gachagua asserted, accusing the president of wanting him “crippled or dead.”
Gachagua also pointed to his opposition to key government decisions, including the eviction of people from riparian land and the leasing of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Indian-owned Adani Company, as reasons for his targeted persecution.
As Gachagua continues to battle political and personal crises, the accusations raise serious questions about the state of Kenyan politics, with further developments expected to unfold in the days ahead.
