Health Scare at TikTok HQ: 60 Employees Hospitalized in Food Poisoning Outbreak
In a shocking incident at the Singapore office of ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, 60 employees fell ill with symptoms of gastroenteritis on Tuesday.
Health and food safety officials are investigating the outbreak, with 57 of the affected individuals requiring hospital treatment.
The incident prompted a swift response, with 17 ambulances dispatched to the building in Singapore’s business district. ByteDance has confirmed that it does not prepare food on-site, relying instead on third-party caterers.
The company is actively collaborating with authorities to determine the cause of the outbreak.
ByteDance emphasized its commitment to employee well-being, stating, “We take the health and safety of our employees very seriously and have taken immediate steps to support all affected employees.”
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Ministry of Health have reiterated the importance of stringent food safety practices and warned that they will take enforcement action against any negligent food operators.
ByteDance, founded in 2012, is known for its global success with TikTok, which boasts over a billion active users worldwide. This incident marks a significant health and safety challenge for the tech giant.
