Harambee Rising Stars Return Home After Historic Wins
Kenya’s U20 national football team, the Harambee Rising Stars, made a triumphant return home after successfully securing a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Their stellar performances, including hard-fought victories against Sudan and Burundi, have ignited fresh hopes for the future of Kenyan football.
Head coach Salim Babu commended the team’s performance, expressing pride in their achievements while calling for more support and better preparation moving forward.
“We’ve learned valuable lessons from these matches, but with increased backing from the government and federation, I’m confident we can reach even greater heights,” said Babu.
He also underscored the depth of talent within the squad, stressing the importance of integrating these young players into the senior national team.
Team captain Amos Wanjala expressed his excitement, calling the qualification a major milestone. “It’s an incredible feeling to lead this team to AFCON qualification. The experience has been priceless,” he said.
Wanjala also praised the team’s new tiki-taka playing style, adding that improved finishing and stronger backing could help them achieve even bigger goals, including lifting trophies.
Goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala, who was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper, reflected on the accomplishment with gratitude. “I thank God for this opportunity,” said Wanzala, who also earned a call-up for the upcoming CHAN tournament. “My focus is now on AFCON, but I know it won’t be easy. We’ll need more support as we strive for success.”
As they set their sights on the 2025 AFCON, the Harambee Rising Stars remain determined to build on their recent success and elevate Kenyan football on the global stage.
