Gun Dealer Evades Police Capture, Injures Officer in Bold Karen Escape
In a dramatic turn of events at Karen Police Station on Friday, a suspect managed to escape custody by locking himself in his car and speeding away.
Shailes Mistry, a director at Cateyes Customs Limited, had been arrested at a local entertainment joint in Karen, Nairobi for possessing firearms without a permit.
Following his arrest, Mistry’s car was towed to the station where an in-depth search revealed three pistols and a substantial amount of ammunition.
Further searches at his residence uncovered a shotgun and 210 rounds of ammunition. Despite presenting a civilian firearms certificate, it was found to have expired on February 21, 2023.
Under the supervision of Corporal Joseph Etemesi and Police Constable James King’ori, Mistry requested to retrieve a heavy sweater from his car.
The officers allowed him, but Mistry then locked himself inside the vehicle. As officers called for backup and attempted to secure the station, Mistry drove through the main gate, injuring officer King’ori in the process.
Investigations are ongoing as police seek to apprehend the suspect.
