Green Card Hopefuls to Face Social Media Checks Under Trump’s Plan
Kenyans and other Green Card hopefuls with controversial social media histories have been placed on high alert following new directives from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding visa and residency applications.
Under the proposal, individuals applying for Green Cards will be required to submit their social media history as part of a more rigorous vetting process.
While a similar policy has been in effect since 2009, requiring applicants to disclose social media usernames, past email addresses, and phone numbers used over the last five years, Trump’s new plan aims to expand these checks.
The proposed regulations will extend to most visa categories, including diversity, work, student, and tourist visas. Social media platforms under scrutiny will include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others.
