Governor Sakaja Declares Temporary 3-Day Closure of City Hall Way
Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that City Hall Way in Nairobi will be closed for three days. This closure will allow for preparations for the WRC Safari Rally.
The road, specifically the section between City Hall Way Roundabout and Parliament Roundabout, will be shut down from Monday, March 17th, at 8:00 PM, until Thursday, March 20th, at 3:00 PM.
“The WRC Safari Rally wishes to inform the public of a temporary road closure on City Hall Way, from City Hall Way Roundabout to Parliament Roundabout,” the official statement said. “This closure will be in effect from Monday, 17th March 2025, at 8:00 PM to Thursday, 20th March 2025, at 3:00 PM, to facilitate the setup and hosting of the WRC Safari Rally Opening Ceremony.”
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys ahead of time and use alternative routes. They are also asked to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be on site to manage the traffic.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journey in advance or use alternative routes, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” the statement concluded.
Nairobi’s Central Business District frequently experiences traffic disruptions for sporting events. For example, major roads have been closed for city marathons in the past.
Other events also cause temporary road closures. Recently, on March 4th, the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) closed a section of Uhuru Highway for one and a half hours for the World Engineering Day procession.
“KeNHA would like to inform the public of a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway at the section between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts on the Mombasa-bound carriageway on Tuesday, March 4, 2025,” KeNHA stated.
Additionally, the Mombasa-Mtwapa-Kilifi Road will also be temporarily closed for the construction of the New Mbogolo Bridge. This closure will start on Tuesday, March 18th, and end on Tuesday, April 1st. Drivers will be redirected to the old Mbogolo Bridge route.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that the Mombasa Mtwapa-Kilifi Road at the New Mbogolo Bridge will be closed to enable the completion of the bridge. The closure will commence on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, at midnight and end on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, at midnight,” the authority said.
