Gachagua Warns Ruto: Mt Kenya Will Not Forget the Impeachment Plot
In a rare and charged address, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sent a stern caution to President William Ruto, reminding him that Mount Kenya’s loyalty is not to be taken lightly.
During a Sunday church service on October 27, at Saint James ACK Cathedral in Kiambu County, Gachagua alluded to a looming reckoning, stating that the region would not easily forget the events that led to his ouster.
With conviction, Gachagua hinted at revealing the inner workings of his impeachment when the moment is right. “We forgive, but we don’t forget. I’ve heard people saying that three years is a long time—that by 2027, people will have forgotten
But we remember the injustices we faced,” Gachagua warned, drawing historical parallels to Kenya’s painful colonial past and challenges faced under previous regimes.
In his address, he also urged Kenyans to pray for President Ruto, suggesting that the head of state needs wisdom to tackle the nation’s pressing issues, including economic hardships, high taxes, and failing healthcare systems. “Our people feel helpless due to economic adversities and over-taxation. We pray for God to grant the President wisdom, so Kenyans may see relief as they go about their lives,” Gachagua expressed.
Accompanied by political allies like Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Gachagua’s message resonated with a sense of resilience, despite his own uncertain political fate as he battles impeachment proceedings in the High Court.
Meanwhile, Ruto has remained largely silent on the issue, only hinting in an address on October 25 that his government is dedicated to uniting, not dividing Kenyans. “We don’t need leaders dividing Kenyans along ethnic lines. I formed a government to unite all Kenyans,” he emphasized. This ambiguous stance has left Kenyans speculating about the deeper tensions between the two leaders and what the future holds for the country’s leadership.
