Gachagua Faces DCI Over Shocking Claims of Accusing Ruto of Assassination Conspiracy
Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is once again at the center of controversy after making explosive claims against President William Ruto and the National Intelligence Service (NIS). Gachagua, who was recently discharged from Karen Hospital following a mysterious illness, accused the President and NIS of plotting to assassinate him.
In a shocking statement upon his release, Gachagua compared his situation to that of the late political leader Kenneth Matiba, who suffered a stroke during political persecution under the Moi regime. “The President wants to take me down the same path President Daniel Arap Moi took with Kenneth Matiba,” Gachagua stated, implying that Ruto is allegedly trying to “cripple” him.
These assassination claims have since drawn the attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who have summoned Gachagua to substantiate his allegations. The DCI noted the gravity of his accusations, demanding a formal statement on October 22 at their headquarters.
Gachagua also recounted two alleged assassination attempts during his time in office. The first, he claimed, took place in Kisumu in August when undercover security agents supposedly entered his hotel room and attempted to poison his food. The second incident, he said, occurred in Nyeri in September during a meeting with the Kikuyu Council of Elders, where he alleged another attempt to poison him.
The embattled former deputy president, who is fighting his impeachment in court, believes that these failed assassination attempts were part of a larger scheme to remove him from office. “After the two attempts to assassinate me failed, that is when this impeachment motion was hatched,” Gachagua told reporters.
He also revealed that his security detail was withdrawn while he was in the hospital, leaving him feeling vulnerable. Gachagua accused NIS officers of monitoring him during his hospital stay, expressing fears for his safety and that of his family.
In a direct appeal to President Ruto, Gachagua said, “I helped you become president. Leave me and my children alone. Do whatever you want, but let me live, let me look after my children.”
