Four Prisoners Escape After Breaking Cell Door
Police in Kisii County are pursuing four prisoners who made a daring escape from Magena Police Station. The suspects broke down their cell door and injured the guard on duty during the late-night incident.
According to an official police report, one escapee used a wooden door frame from the broken cell to strike the officer on the forehead before fleeing. The injured officer alerted the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) about the breakout.
Authorities have called on the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could lead to the fugitives’ capture. A coordinated operation involving officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is underway to apprehend the escapees, who face charges ranging from drug possession to assault.
This incident adds to a growing list of prison break cases in the country. Earlier this year, 13 inmates, including confessed serial killer Collins Jumaisi, escaped from the Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi. Investigations revealed that they likely exited through the main door, prompting the arrest and later release on bond of five police officers who were on duty. Jumaisi remains at large four months after the incident.
Authorities have promised heightened security measures to prevent further escapes and ensure public safety.
