Former President Kenyatta Engages in AU Peace and Stability Talks in Côte d’Ivoire
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is attending the 15th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security, and Stability in Africa, currently being held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
This annual summit gathers Africa’s top diplomats, policymakers, and regional stakeholders to discuss crucial peace and security issues affecting the continent.
The retreat focuses on reviewing the African Union’s (AU) preventive diplomacy and mediation efforts in tackling conflicts across Africa.
Key discussions will include improving conflict resolution mechanisms and promoting the inclusion of women and youth in peacebuilding initiatives, such as FemWise-Africa and the WiseYouth Network.
As African countries continue to face complex security challenges, the retreat serves as a platform for exchanging insights on how to strengthen the AU’s conflict management strategies, especially ahead of an upcoming leadership transition within the AU Commission.
Experts, diplomats, and international partners—including representatives from the United Nations, European Union, League of Arab States, and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation—are expected to contribute to these high-stakes discussions.
By bringing together Special Representatives, Envoys, and leaders of Regional Economic Communities, the AU retreat aims to chart a path toward sustainable peace and stability across the continent, ensuring the African Union remains a leading force in conflict prevention and resolution.
