Former MP Kidnapped at Funeral Shares Dark Hours: ‘I Was Dropped in the Dead of Night
Former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, who was allegedly kidnapped during a chaotic funeral in Limuru on Thursday, November 28, has opened up about his terrifying ordeal.
While speaking to KTN, Mwathi recounted the tense moments at Erastus Nduati’s burial, which had been attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He described noticing a significant number of young men whose demeanor raised suspicion. His fears were confirmed when the group began shaking the tent where Gachagua was seated, causing panic and forcing mourners to flee for safety.
Sensing the growing insecurity, Mwathi said three of his men rushed to his aid, whisking him away for nearly 2.5 kilometers until they reached a taxi. “We were trying to escape the chaos,” he explained.
However, as the taxi made its way toward Naivasha, two unmarked vehicles intercepted them. “One vehicle blocked us from the front, and another from behind. They dragged me out of the car,” Mwathi recalled.
Once inside their vehicle, Mwathi found himself flanked by two men. “We moved from one road to another, one forest to another,” he narrated. His abductors posed unsettling questions, such as whether he loved his family and his political affiliations. Despite being opposed to the current administration, Mwathi said he told them he supported it to avoid further trouble.
“I couldn’t see their faces as they were all hooded. They turned off my phone, cutting off any communication,” Mwathi shared.
After hours of being driven through unfamiliar terrain, Mwathi was finally released along the Southern Bypass at around 11:30 p.m. “They dropped me off in complete darkness,” he said, adding that his captors wore masks, including the driver.
Although he was not physically harmed, Mwathi described enduring severe psychological torment throughout the ordeal, constantly questioning whether he would make it out alive.
