Former Man Utd Winger Elanga Keen to Watch Harambee Stars in Action
Former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga has hinted at attending a match to watch his ex-coach Benni McCarthy, who now manages the Kenyan national team, Harambee Stars.
The Nottingham Forest forward made the revelation on Friday, March 14, 2025, through an Instagram response to McCarthy’s post. The South African tactician is currently leading Harambee Stars’ preparations for their crucial World Cup qualifier against The Gambia on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

Elanga’s comment, “I need to come to a game,” suggested that he has been keeping tabs on his former coach’s career progression.
McCarthy’s Influence on Elanga
Before taking charge of the Kenyan national team, McCarthy was part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United, serving as a strikers’ coach between 2022 and 2024. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in shaping Elanga and other forwards at Old Trafford.
Elanga was among several Manchester United players, including captain Bruno Fernandes and defender Lisandro Martínez, who congratulated McCarthy on his new managerial role earlier this month.
McCarthy Focused on The Gambia Clash
As he gears up for his first competitive match in charge of Harambee Stars, McCarthy remains focused on the upcoming World Cup qualifier.

“Our priority is the Gambia match on the 20th for World Cup qualification. Hopefully, we can get a team ready to go out there and fight and bring pride to the Kenyan nation. From there, we build towards Gabon and keep working toward the ultimate dream,” McCarthy said in a recent interview.
The South African tactician also assured Kenyan fans that his squad will put in the hard work needed for success.
“We’re going to work extremely hard to get this team ready and right so that Kenyans can be proud of their players when they wear the national shirt. We’ll give them a team that fights, plays good football, and most importantly, one that wants to win matches,” he added.
