Former DCI SSU Officers Arrested Over Alleged Role in Kidnapping of Indian Nationals
In a significant development, four police officers formerly attached to the now-disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been arrested. The officers are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, October 24, following a dramatic arrest on Friday, October 21, after a day-long interrogation by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).
The arrests come amid allegations linking the officers to the disappearance of two Indian nationals, Mohamed Zaid Sami Kidwai and Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, along with their Kenyan driver, Nicodemus Mwania Mwange. The three disappeared on July 24, 2022, under mysterious circumstances. The Indian nationals were reportedly part of a team that was overseeing President William Ruto’s campaign technology, having arrived in Kenya in April 2022.
Dennis Itumbi, a prominent social media strategist for President Ruto, has claimed that the SSU was responsible for the abduction. According to Itumbi, the unit was involved in a campaign to kidnap, torture, and eliminate those supporting Ruto’s presidential bid. He shared a personal account, stating that the two Indian nationals were his friends who had become victims of a politically motivated conspiracy. The blogger further detailed their final days, emphasizing the horrific nature of their last moments.
As the investigation deepens, the case raises questions about the tactics employed by security agencies during the election period. The shocking revelations have sparked widespread concern, with many calling for a thorough inquiry into the activities of the disbanded SSU.
