Ex-DP Gachagua Says No Bitterness,Just Peace for Kenya
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated his commitment to peace, insisting he harbors no resentment toward anyone, including his political rivals, following his recent impeachment.
During a church service in Kahawa West, Nairobi County, Gachagua appealed to Kenyans to uphold peace, regardless of recent political upheavals. “Express yourself through songs and dance; that’s who we are as a people. I want to say that we have no bitterness with anybody. What we want is a peaceful country,” he stated passionately, encouraging unity across the nation.
Hinting at ongoing dialogues, Gachagua revealed that he is currently in talks with various groups, including members of the clergy, professionals, and business leaders, promising to unveil the results of these discussions at an appropriate time. “I am holding talks with the clergy—including bishops and pastors—professionals, and business people, and the conversations are progressing well. In good time, we will share the outcomes so we can plan together for the way forward,” he explained.
Gachagua also called on religious leaders to continue their prayers for the country’s stability, expressing faith that peace would prevail in due time. “Our issues should not be hurried like chasing after a stolen bicycle. Even our churches have acknowledged there was a moment of confusion. I urge you to go on with these discussions to avoid a repeat of this situation. Many are asking questions, but I ask you to keep praying for our nation and even for us,” he remarked.
In a show of goodwill, Gachagua clarified that he holds no animosity toward President William Ruto, urging the president to use the remaining years in office to fulfill his pledges to the Kenyan people. “We have no problem with the president. Let’s allow him the next three years to deliver on the promises he made,” Gachagua said during a funeral service in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
As Kenya’s first-ever impeached Deputy President, Gachagua’s removal was endorsed by the Senate after a National Assembly vote, marking a significant moment in the country’s political landscape. His successor, Professor Kithure Kindiki, was officially sworn in on November 1st at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), in a ceremony marked by both solemnity and celebration.
