DP Kindiki Assures Kenyans of Economic Recovery, Calls for Patience
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to exercise patience with the Kenya Kwanza administration, assuring them that the country is on the right trajectory under President William Ruto’s leadership. Speaking during a church service in Lodwar, Turkana County, Kindiki acknowledged the economic challenges facing citizens but emphasized ongoing efforts to stabilize key sectors and enhance livelihoods.
Kindiki, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, and other leaders, pointed out the strides made in economic stabilization since the administration assumed office.
“When President Ruto took over, the shilling was at its weakest, trading at Ksh.170 to the dollar. Today, it stands at Ksh.129,” Kindiki noted, attributing the improvement to Kenya Kwanza’s deliberate interventions. He highlighted the decline in petroleum prices, which he said has eased transportation and production costs, with further reductions announced recently.
The Deputy President also mentioned progress in reducing the cost of essential commodities and loan interest rates, urging citizens to remain hopeful. “The same God who has guided us this far will help us complete the journey of economic recovery,” he added.
Looking ahead, Kindiki outlined the administration’s priority of increasing household incomes and creating jobs over the next three years. He detailed initiatives such as employing 20,000 youth to clean the Nairobi River, expanding the Climate Works Programme, and hiring 76,000 teachers—the highest recruitment by any government in Kenya’s history.
“We’ve opened up thousands of local and international opportunities for youth while ensuring regional equity in access to these jobs,” he said.
On security, Kindiki highlighted the success of Operation Maliza Uhalifu in restoring peace in Turkana and the larger North Rift region. “Our multi-agency security teams have dismantled criminal networks involved in banditry and livestock rustling, creating an environment for economic transformation,” he said.
He praised local leaders for fostering peace and called for continued collaboration to sustain stability. “We’ve implemented multistakeholder programs to ensure bandits and criminals do not regroup,” Kindiki concluded.
