DCI Nabs Suspect Behind 14-Year-Old Kenyan Boy’s Trafficking to Libya
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended and arraigned a suspect linked to the trafficking of a Kenyan teenager who mysteriously disappeared four years ago.
The victim, Bilal Ali Noor, was only 14 years old and a student at Mandera DEB Primary School when he went missing in 2021. His desperate family later discovered that he was being held captive in Libya.
Despite paying a ransom of Ksh2.35 million to two individuals in Somalia, their son remained in captivity.
In a shocking turn of events, Bilal re-established contact with his family on March 12, 2025, from a hospital in Tunisia, revealing that he had been shot in both legs.
Investigations later confirmed that he had escaped from Libya in November 2023 alongside other captives, including two Kenyans from Mandera who are now caring for him in Tunisia.
Following forensic intelligence, detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) tracked and arrested the suspect, identified as Bilal Shukri Ahmed. He was arraigned at the Mandera Law Courts on March 14, where the prosecution secured a 21-day custodial order. The case is set for mention on April 4, 2025.
The DCI has not disclosed further details on the suspect’s arrest or whether the victim has reunited with his family.
