DCI Detectives Mistaken for Kidnappers Narrowly Escape Mob Attack
Amid growing concerns over rampant abductions across Kenya, a team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) narrowly escaped mob justice in Kiamanyeki, Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
The officers, reportedly on duty to apprehend a suspect, were mistaken for abductors after failing to identify themselves to locals. The situation escalated quickly as an angry mob surrounded their vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, and attempted to set it ablaze.
Witnesses claimed the mob’s fear stemmed from recent abduction cases, with some accusing law enforcement of complicity in the rising trend. The detectives managed to disperse the crowd and escape unhurt, thanks to reinforcements from local police who eventually calmed the situation.
When contacted, National Police Service spokesperson Resilla Onyango promised to address the incident. However, no official statement had been issued by the time of publishing
