DCI Clamps Down on Drug Rings: Over Ksh15 Million Worth of Narcotics Seized
In a relentless crackdown on drug trafficking, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has arrested more than nine suspects in the past two weeks, seizing narcotics worth over Ksh15 million. The intensified operations come as detectives continue their pursuit of the elusive Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, infamously known as ‘Mathe wa Ngara,’ who managed to escape from a Juja apartment during a drug bust last Friday.
The Anti-Narcotics Unit, in collaboration with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit, has been executing a series of intelligence-driven operations. In the latest sting, detectives arrested David Ochieng Okoth and Christopher Odipo Ochieng in the Mastore area of Juja after discovering six sacks of bhang concealed in their car.
Meanwhile, two other suspects were apprehended for the possession, sale, and distribution of cannabis in a hideout identified by the ANU. A raid on Thursday, conducted jointly by ANU detectives and officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), led to the seizure of 360 rolls of cannabis sativa in a den behind Kangundo Road market. Rufftone Kinuthia Ngeruro and Joseph Kangethe Kamau were arrested at the scene.
In a separate incident, drug traffickers narrowly escaped a police dragnet in Malindi, abandoning seven sacks of cannabis valued at over Ksh4.6 million. Acting on a tip-off, ANU detectives intercepted the vehicle along the Kilifi-Malindi road in Mtondia. The suspects managed to flee, but the haul was recovered.
The DCI has vowed to continue its crackdown on drug trafficking networks, stating that the elusive traffickers will soon be apprehended. “The detectives are currently in hot pursuit of the elusive drug traffickers, and it is just a matter of time before they are smoked out of their hideouts,” the DCI stated on X.
