County Ex-ICT Director Arrested for Forging Academic Papers
A former senior official in Kisumu County has been arrested for allegedly using forged academic documents to secure employment.
Nick Odhiambo Migot, the ex-Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Kisumu County Government, was apprehended on Tuesday by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
According to EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, Migot forged both his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science degree. The degree was falsely attributed to the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), while the KCSE certificate was claimed to have been issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
“Investigations revealed that the suspect presented these fake documents to the County Public Service Board of Kisumu during his job application,” said Ngumbi.
The forgery enabled Migot to fraudulently acquire wealth totaling Ksh. 4,656,211 over three years. Following an in-depth investigation, the EACC forwarded the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who preferred four charges against Migot.
The charges include:
- Forgery, contrary to Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code.
- Uttering a false document, contrary to Section 353.
- Fraudulent acquisition of public property, contrary to Section 45(1)(a) as read with Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.
Migot is currently in custody at Kisumu Central Police Station and is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
