Bungoma Man Dies After Being Electrocuted During Tree Pruning Incident
A tragic incident unfolded in Kimerin village, Cheptais, Bungoma County, when a 40-year-old man, William Matwale Joseck, was fatally electrocuted while pruning trees on September 17. Witnesses and police reports confirm that Matwale died instantly after tree branches he was trimming came into contact with a live wire.
His body was discovered with severe burns on his right thumb and back, injuries consistent with high-voltage electrocution. Authorities later moved his body to Dreamland Kimilili mortuary, where it will undergo a postmortem examination.
Local officials have cited illegal power connections and unchecked vegetation as common causes of similar tragic incidents in rural areas.
In a separate incident in the same region, a suspected thief, Timothy Natembea, 29, was lynched by a mob in Nabikoto sub-location. Natembea was accused of burglary, and while one of his accomplices was arrested and arraigned, Natembea was not so fortunate. His body was taken to Kimilili Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In other parts of the country, mob justice continued to rear its ugly head. In Thika, police rescued a man from an angry crowd after he was accused of stealing shoes from a residential area. He was stoned and later rushed to Thika Level Five hospital in serious condition. Meanwhile, in Kitengela, Kajiado County, another alleged thief narrowly escaped death after being beaten by locals before being handed over to police. Authorities continue to warn against mob justice, urging citizens to surrender suspects to law enforcement for proper prosecution.
