Body Discovered in United Airlines Plane Wheel Well After Hawaii Landing
A body was discovered in the landing gear compartment of a United Airlines plane shortly after it landed at Maui’s Kahului Airport on Christmas Eve, the airline confirmed.
Flight 202, which departed from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on Tuesday morning, arrived in Hawaii that afternoon.
According to United Airlines, the landing gear compartment, also known as the wheel well, is only accessible from the outside of the Boeing 787-10 aircraft. It remains unclear how or when the individual entered the restricted area.
The company stated it is cooperating with law enforcement as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
The deceased individual has not yet been identified.
In a statement to Hawaii News Now, the Maui Police Department confirmed it is investigating the incident, saying, “Regarding a deceased individual discovered on an incoming flight from the mainland this afternoon. At this time, no further details are available.”
