Bishop’s Mysterious Disappearance: DCI Launches Probe in Kakamega
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Vihiga and Kakamega counties have launched a probe into the mysterious disappearance of PAG General Presiding Superintendent, Bishop Patrick Lihanda, who reportedly went missing under unclear circumstances on Saturday evening.
The bishop was last seen leaving the Nyang’ori PAG headquarters at around 4 p.m., headed for a meeting in Mbale town, Vihiga County. Shortly after his departure, he sent a chilling SMS to his driver, indicating that his life was in imminent danger.
Attempts by the driver to reach him were unsuccessful, as Bishop Lihanda’s phone was switched off moments later.
Alarmed by the sudden silence, the driver immediately reported the matter to the Mbale Police Station, prompting a rapid response from DCI officers. Using tracking technology, they traced the bishop’s phone to the Mayoni area.
By Sunday morning, the case took an even more puzzling turn when Mumias Sub-county police commander Stephen Muoni confirmed the discovery of Bishop Lihanda’s vehicle, a white Mercedes Benz, abandoned at Shibale Trading Centre in Mumias, Kakamega County. The vehicle’s headlights were still on, but there was no sign of the bishop. Inside the car, police found his Bible, spectacles, and diary.
The timing of this alleged abduction is particularly concerning, as it comes just days before the scheduled PAG church elections set for October 1, 2024, at the Nyang’ori church headquarters. The elections have been highly anticipated due to a five-year-long leadership dispute between two rival factions within the church, leading to multiple court battles.
The incident has intensified the already tense atmosphere surrounding the upcoming elections, raising questions about whether they will proceed as planned. As investigations continue, authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind Bishop Lihanda’s mysterious disappearance.
