Assembly Speaker Cheats Death in Head-On Collision
The acting speaker of the Nyamira County Assembly, Thaddeus Nyabaro, narrowly survived a road accident on Sunday night along the Kisii-Nyamira road.
The incident occurred at Nyakong’o, near Ikonge Centre, when Nyabaro’s personal vehicle collided head-on with a Nyamira Express bus at around 11:00 PM. The collision caused extensive damage to the front section of the speaker’s car.
Both Nyabaro, who is also the Ekerenyo Ward representative, and his driver sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for specialized medical attention. According to a source close to the matter, both are in stable condition and recovering from their injuries.
Fortunately, no passengers aboard the Nairobi-bound bus were injured in the crash. Authorities have since launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
This incident comes amid ongoing political turbulence in Nyamira County. Just days earlier, the assembly impeached Speaker Enock Okero over allegations of gross misconduct and corruption. Following his removal, Deputy Speaker Thaddeus Nyabaro stepped in as the acting speaker.
Okero’s impeachment on December 14 was backed by 24 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), while 11 abstained. This marked a significant moment in Nyamira’s political landscape, coming only a month after a failed impeachment attempt against Governor Amos Nyaribo.
