Armed Robbery Ring Busted in Garissa; Three Suspects Arrested
Two suspects, identified as Ali Isaac Muhumed and Muhumed Bare Hussein, have been arrested in Garissa County’s Burburis area following a series of violent robberies that had terrorized residents. The duo, along with their alleged accomplice, Habiba Yusuf, were captured during a police operation after intelligence reports linked them to at least six robbery incidents in September.
The police operation, which was carried out with precision, uncovered a stash of items, including an AK47 rifle with six rounds of ammunition, 12 mobile phones, two knives, a cash safe, a car, and other stolen property. The raid revealed more items such as mattresses, bags, and water jerricans, scattered around the disorganized house, indicating the suspects’ hurried attempts to evade capture.
“We received intelligence information and organized a team that led us to this site. We managed to apprehend two individuals and a woman who had been providing them shelter. Investigations are ongoing,” stated Garissa OCPD Samuel Boit.
It’s alleged that over the last three weeks, the suspects orchestrated six robberies, with two M-Pesa operators losing over Ksh.1.5 million. Police suspect the involvement of a larger gang, with Garissa Deputy County Commissioner Thomas Bett warning, “We have credible information that this is a larger group, and we want to assure the rest that we are on their trail.”
OCPD Boit further reassured residents by emphasizing that security efforts have been intensified: “We have bolstered intelligence collection, and I want to assure the people of Garissa that they can live in peace knowing that security has been beefed up.”
The three suspects are currently being held at Garissa Police Station and are expected to face court proceedings on Monday. Local security officials have vowed to continue their crackdown on all individuals involved in such criminal activities
