Another Kenyan Security Officer Suffers Injury in Haiti, Hospitalized

A Kenyan peacekeeper, part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti, was quickly taken to a hospital on Tuesday after getting hurt during an operation.

Jack Ombaka, the MSS representative, told reporters that the Kenyan officer suffered injuries while carrying out a security task in Kenscoff, specifically within the Belot area.

Immediately after the injuries occurred, the police officer was moved to ASPEN Level 2 Hospital, where they received urgent medical care, according to the MSS representative.

Ombaka also said that the injured officer was successfully treated and is now recovering and in a steady condition. “Today, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, a member of the MSS Kenyan group was injured while doing a security operation in Kenscoff, inside the Belot region,” Ombaka explained.

“The officer was rapidly moved to ASPEN Level 2 Hospital, where they are getting medical care and are in a stable state,” he further stated.

The MSS representative thanked the Haitian people for their support and promised to give more news about the incident through the mission’s official social media accounts.

“I truly thank you all for your constant support and cooperation as we take part in this crucial stage of operations against criminal groups,” Ombaka said.

This incident is another example of police officers getting hurt during the peacekeeping mission in Haiti. It follows the death of Constable Samuel Kitwai, who died on February 24 after being injured during an operation.

His death was confirmed by MSS Commander Godfrey Otunge, who announced that Kitwai died from injuries received during a peacekeeping operation in Artibonite State, a region north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital.

Speaking to reporters on February 24, Otunge said the officer was flown to a hospital, where he died soon after, marking the first death for the MSS mission.

The increasing number of injuries in the Kenya-led mission happens just two months after Kenya sent its third group of police officers, including a female SWAT team, to Haiti.
