5,000 Police Officers to Be Hired in March, DP Kindiki Announces
The Kenyan government has announced plans to recruit 5,000 police officers in March 2025, marking a resumption of the recruitment exercise after a two-year pause.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealed the development during an interdenominational service in Lodwar, Turkana County, on Sunday, December 15. The recruitment aims to enhance security across the country, particularly in volatile regions.
“We have employed additional officers to the Kenya Defence Forces, and even for the delayed police recruitment, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March,” stated Kindiki.
The DP noted that the government is keen on addressing unemployment by creating more opportunities in the public and informal sectors.
Among the areas targeted for officer deployment are the northeastern regions, which have faced persistent insecurity.
Additionally, Kindiki announced that President William Ruto is set to name a new Cabinet Secretary for Interior, with whom he plans to collaborate closely. “We are praying for a new Interior CS who will soon be announced, and we will work with them to build on the security strides made earlier,” he said.
The last recruitment for junior officers in the National Police Service (NPS) occurred in March 2022. A planned 2023 exercise was postponed due to financial constraints caused by the country’s public debt obligations.
The upcoming recruitment reflects the government’s efforts to strengthen national security and create job opportunities amid growing economic challenges.
