30-Day To Choose Between Party Roles and State Jobs Period !!!
In a crucial decision, the Employment and Labour Relations Court has handed seven Jubilee Party officials a 30-day ultimatum to choose between their positions in the former ruling party and their appointments within the government. The ultimatum comes as a result of a legal suit filed at the High Court challenging their dual roles.
The court ordered these officials, alongside National Executive Committee (NEC) members, to either step down from their party roles or relinquish their government posts. A faction within the Jubilee Party, displeased with the appointments, welcomed the court’s decision.
“The Employment and Labour Relations Court has ordered Jubilee Party officials and NEC members who accepted jobs in the Kenya Kwanza Government to choose between keeping their positions in the party or keeping their state jobs,” the party wing stated.
Among those affected are prominent figures such as Nelson Dzuya, Joshua Kutuny, Naomi Shaban, Angwenyi Jimmy Nuru Ondiek, Peter Ole Mositet, Mutava Musyimi, and Joel Kibe. These leaders currently hold various government positions, including Joshua Kutuny, appointed Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board, and Naomi Shaban, Chairperson of the Tobacco Control Board.
The lawsuit was filed by Joseph Kagai, represented by lawyer Jackson Awele, who argued that the seven NEC members holding both public office and party positions was unconstitutional.
This ruling follows a series of recent legal battles within Jubilee, with the High Court also overturning attempts to expel top officials, including Vice Chairperson David Murathe and Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni. The latest court decision is poised to intensify internal tensions within the party as the affected leaders weigh their next move.
